Alexandria IN dentist Dr. Alam Grewal

"Building trust through relationships is the heart of dentistry."

The best part of dentistry? For Dr. Grewal, it’s the opportunity to truly connect with his patients. He finds it deeply rewarding to build rapport and positively impact their lives through oral healthcare. Dr. Grewal believes in working closely with patients to present various treatment options and create a personalized plan to restore their oral health. His enthusiasm for dentistry shines through at every appointment.

Why Did You Become a Dentist?

From an early age, dentistry played a meaningful role in Dr. Grewal’s life. A career that allowed him to work with his hands while forming strong, trust-based relationships with others was a natural fit. Whether he’s relieving pain, restoring function, or boosting confidence through dental treatment, Dr. Grewal always takes the time to listen and make each patient feel heard and understood.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Grewal completed his undergraduate studies at Michigan State University, where he was accepted into the Pre-Dental Track while earning a degree in Finance and a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Upon graduation, he worked as a Forecast Analyst, then an Asset Manager; all while volunteering at the Malta Medical & Dental Clinic in Detroit, MI.

Before starting dental school, Dr. Grewal returned to dentistry full-time, working as a dental assistant to deepen his clinical experience. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. During dental school, he discovered an interest in endodontics, oral surgery, prosthodontics, and restorative dentistry. His passion for multidisciplinary care led him to pursue general and family dentistry. He also completed clinical rotations at Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) across Michigan, expanding his exposure to diverse patient populations and treatment needs.

A key piece to why Dr. Grewal chose to practice in Indiana is his long-term girlfriend, whom he met on the first day of dental school, is now completing her Pediatric Dentistry Residency at Indiana University/Riley Children’s Hospital.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Originally from Canton, Michigan, Dr. Grewal is a dedicated fan of all things Detroit sports—from the Lions and Pistons to the Red Wings and Tigers—and he proudly supports Michigan State athletics. In his free time, he enjoys playing pickleball, hiking, traveling, and exploring Indiana with his girlfriend.

Some of his favorite hobbies include:

  • Golfing
  • Working on cars
  • Riding his motorcycles or side-by-side (UTV)
  • Managing fantasy football teams
  • Boating in the summer
  • Snowboarding in the winter
